Cabinet Renovation Before and After

After some time, I decided to start renovating one cabinet in our house that I had never liked the color of. I don't follow trends because what makes some people happy may not be for me. I prefer timeless pieces with accessories that can change based on your mood or season.

A blog post about following Pinterest trends and regretting it is needed. Today, I'm sharing my cabinet renovation before and after. All the details (tools and products) are mentioned below.

Let's start with the fact that I messed up and had to delay the project completion because the first paint color I chose was not what I expected, so I had to go to the store and buy another. The current paint is beautiful.

When resurfacing or painting cabinets, there are a couple of ways you can do that. There were two options: either stripping the paint or sanding the cabinets. I decided to sand as much as I had the patience for.

I used my electric sander and loved it; I also had to do some parts by hand. Don't worry; doing as much as possible if you can, if you can't sand 100%, is not a big deal.

After sanding, I primed all the wood I wanted to paint. The primer I used was Valspar stain-blocking bonding, and I used a brush and a roller. I always have both handy because some places are hard to cover with the roller, and the brush comes in handy.

Read the instructions before painting. I waited longer than a few hours because I had the wrong paint. Usually, you can paint sooner than 24 hours.

The paint I used was Behr Prem Cabinet and Trim Satin, color DARK SECRET. I was looking for a dark color, like grey/black. There are many options, and the lighting is the most significant difference. The cabinet in my house will never see daylight because it is far from the windows. Below is an image of the door with direct sunlight for reference.

I painted the cabinets with the brush for the corners and roller for the rest. It took a couple of coats. When you buy paint, no matter what quality you get, more than one coat is needed, especially with the roller. Make sure the paint has plenty of drying time between coats.

Finally, the best part is the Brushed Gold Knobs. I was looking for something simple and yet to make a statement, so they are just perfect.
